Chocolate Sales has always been a successful fundraiser for us. The best thing about it is that we can do it several times in a school year - Winter Holidays, Valentine's Day, Teacher Appreciation Week, Mother's Day...  Everyone loves chocolate!

Annual Walk-A-Thon is always a fun for the kids and families. And lots of shirts and water bottles get sold! We called it the Monster Walk and everyone gets dressed up in Monster costumes.

Also, Glow Dance. Setting it up is a pretty laborious process, but we've had especially good success getting parents sign up to volunteer for this event, and participation has always been at a maximum.

Family Fun Night. Usually with catered pizza or Hot Dog Trucks, and lemonade and popcorn stands.

Costume parties are always a huge hit. Like for Halloween Festival, but younger kids love to get dressed up in costumes, of have Funky Hair Day, or Backward Shirt Day. Lots of options!

This was my first year on PTA. Bingo night was a real crowd pleaser.

Glow party looks awesome, Heidi. Need to steal this lol! We usually just do book sales and bake sales and potlucks. Simple stuff. Too simple! Already getting some ideas here haha.

Aw, thanks Alex! Nothing wrong with simple. But you'll see a whole other level of excitement and increase in participants when you do something extra special once in a while. Like, really going out of your way with decorations and music can make a world of difference. Asking parents and even older students to help with the preparations and setup, and during the event is not only necessary for the success of a big event, but it's a really nice way to ensure that  everyone feels like a valuable part of the school community.

One thing that really works for us is we invite everyone (parents, grandparents, caretakers, etc.) to the event planning meetings - not just the PTA! It can get very lively! We've found that people are much more likely to volunteer when they feel that their ideas have been taken into consideration and their suggestions are valued (even if many suggestions will go into the "future events" file ;), and they are not there just as "helping hands".

Carnival! Extended family, friends and neighbors are all welcome. Everyone has to buy tickets that are then used for food and drinks, games and activities. There's some excellent bakers at our school, and our bake sales are famous. Fashion show and dance-off. Game day. Just to name a few.
