Before an individual can claim an organization's store, your organization will be vetted in an effort to prevent potentially fraudulent use of splitShops.
splitShops and our Platform Charity, Givinga Foundation, work together to vet organizations by:
- Verify via the IRS database that an organization is tax-exempt and that contributions are tax deductible;
- Verify state registration status;
- Verify that any bank account information is associated with a nonprofit, not an individual;
- Associate bank account details with the nonprofit; and
- Request, receive and verify the organization's Form 990.
The individual claiming an organization's store is also vetted by:
- Verifying the identification of the person claiming the store against the IRS and other public data sources.
We also get each organization's approval before collecting funds for it.
We may employ additional proprietary means of verification and may adjust these methods over time.
